Development Engineer, process modeling and simulation

Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

  • ·Apply knowledge of engineering principles and programming to develop and support advanced computer simulations for process and product development in Asia. Actively participates within and beyond department boundaries to resolve important process and product issues using numerical simulations. Enhances engineering and development organizations capabilities and productivity through the development and transfer of new tools and methods.
  • ·The Candidate will work primarily in the field of solid mechanics (FEA) and multi-scale modeling with focus on fracture mechanics and structural dynamics to numerically evaluate, with the support of experiments, the fracture behavior and strength of glass and ceramic products.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • ·Use knowledge of physics to build deep understanding of the materials and processes at CDT
  • ·Use existing tools and develop new analytical and numerical models to resolve process problems
  • ·Correlate simulation with experimental results
  • ·Support development and validation testing
  • ·Partner closely with other simulation scientist/engineers across MTE and S&T organizations
  • ·Communicate results both orally and in written form in clear precise English
  • ·Protect Corning’s intellectual property by filing invention disclosures for patent application in timely fashion
  • ·Document all project findings in internal, structured reports

Travel Requirements (please note if international):

  • ·25% domestic and international

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • ·40hr/week, with occasional evening conference calls

Required Skills:

  • ·Minimal 5 years’ experience in Numerical Simulations
  • ·Strong foundation in physics and engineering science with programming skills
  • ·Fracture Mechanics fundamental.
  • ·Creative/innovative problem solving
  • ·Self-starter, self- managing
  • ·Results oriented and high commitment /energy

Desired Skills:

  • ·Experience using and programming in ABAQUS, COMSOL, ANSYS
  • ·Fluency with one of these programming languages: Java, Scala or Python
  • ·Programming experience, preferably in a MATLAB/Simulink environment, is required
  • ·Knowledge of database and external programming interfaces preferred

Education and Experience:

  • ·PhDin mechanical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • ·Industrial modeling project experience is preferred.

Modeling engineer

  • ·Programming experience, preferably in a MATLAB/Simulink environment, is a plus

Education and Experience:

  • ·Master degreein mechanics relative engineering filed , materials science, chemical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • ·Industrial modeling project experience is preferred.
